What are the dates and times?

07/12/2017 - 07/29/2017. Weekdays, 9 am to 5 pm. Grand Finale Concert will take place on the last day.

Where is it held?

Daily activities at Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, Chapman University, 1 University Dr., Orange, CA 92866. Grand finale will be at Performing Arts Center at Irvine Valley College, 5500 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, CA 92618.

What is the tuition?

Including three one-on-one instructions, chamber music (both rehearsals and coaching), master classes, chamber orchestra, music entrepreneurship class, new music class, additional specialized classes, as well as one meal a day and snacks, the cost is $1250, to support this not-for-profit festival (FEID: 47-2261319, IRS 501(c)(3) status pending).

Are there any discounts?

Yes, both merit scholarships and financial aid are available.

What instruments are offered?

What age groups are accepted?

Ages 12 (7th grade in the fall) through college age.

What curriculum is offered?

Three one-on-one instructions per student, chamber music (including rehearsals and coaching), master classes, music entrepreneurship, new music, chamber orchestra.

What about recreation and food?

One meal will be provided, as well as snacks. Each day will include supervised breaks and one extended recreational period.

My child is in middle school. Will he or she be supervised the entire day?

Yes. The staff includes an adult manager, as well as the faculty members. All students younger than 18 will be supervised.

My student is an advanced player. Is there challenging repertoire?

Yes. Both the more inexperienced player and the advanced player will be placed in different, appropriately leveled chamber groups, so as to challenge them. In addition, the three private lessons will meet the student where he or she is, and bring him or her to a greater mastery of the instrument. The chamber orchestra, as well, will be learning music which will meet the needs of all the students.

I need to drop off/pick up at a different time than indicated. Will adjustments be made for my student?

Students can be dropped off beginning at 8:30 am, and a light breakfast (bagels, pastry, fruit, juice) will be offered. An adult will be present. Pick up will be firmly at the end of the daily schedule, although accommodations could be made on a case by case basis.

What kind of evening outings are planned?

IMF is waiting on summer performance dates to be released. It will be posted on the web site as soon as possible. Examples of outings are attending an outdoor symphony concert or outdoor movie.

Is there a performance of the IMF chamber groups and orchestra planned?

Yes. On Jul 29, 2017, all chamber groups and the orchestra will perform in the lovely Irvine Valley College Performing Arts Center. All family, friends, and community are invited.

How do I apply?

When can I apply?

Applications open on 01/01/2017. Applications close on 05/14/2017. However, early submission by 04/30/2017 is highly encouraged for scholarship consideration.

Do I need to audition?

IMF will accept audition videos until 05/14/2017. However, early submission by 04/30/2017 is highly encouraged for scholarship consideration.

What is required for my audition video?

Submit url's (e.g. YouTube links) of video recordings of applicant performing 2 pieces/movements of contrasting styles and tempo, e.g. slow movement of unaccompanied Bach and fast movement of a Romantic concerto. ABSOLUTELY NO EDITING of the performance recording is permitted please.

Will I need a teacher recommendation?

Yes. The web site will send an email to your teacher, asking for a recommendation.

When will I need to pay the tuition?

The application fee is $20, which will be applied to the student's tuition. This is due with the application, by 05/14/2017 or by 04/30/2017 for merit scholarship consideration, and is not refundable, which helps support this not-for-profit event. Upon acceptance, the first payment of $400 is due 05/31/2017. The final payment of $830 less any scholarship, financial aid or discount is due on 06/11/2017.
